Boomer Sooner Baby! My boys went out and got it done. Holding off a driving Oregon team trying to at the very least get a field goal to force over time Clint Engram comes up with a clutch interception. Adrian Peterson ran great. Funny/Stupid moment, while celebrating our first TD to go up 10-7 Mr. Peterson stood up and hit his head on the back of another players helmet and cut himself wide open. Probably will never hear the end of that. What can I say I am happy, very happy. We looked good. Freshman receivers looked great just like they had all year (Have I ever mentioned, "I love freshman receivers"). Brett was getting nailed and getting up like a champ and AD was running great. Defense looked stout. Got a lot to look forward to next year!!! :)

My Record: 7-4
Probably the absolutely worst officiated game I have ever seen. Other than that a great game. Music City Miracle, What? Michigan about pulled off the greatest play in college football. With no time on the clock they threw 11 lateral passes and almost scored with pandemonium on the field. Nebraska QB Zach Taylor is one tough kid, look for good things out of this kid in the future.

My Record: 7-3
Boise State gave it the old college try! Coach Hawkins is moving on to the best conference in college football (Big XII), but with a bad taste in his mouth. Boise State had won 13 strait games at home. Until Boston College came to town. UP 21-0 at the half BC looked to have it all sealed up. Until the surf turf mystique came into to play. Down 21-27 in the final minutes Boise State inside of the red zone, they through a pick to seal their fate. They're getting good folks!

Red Shirt Freshman QB Rudy Carpenter threw lights out for the Sun Devils. This kid looked really good 23-45 for 467 yards and 4 TD's. Both teams defense seemed timid. At least both offenses were putting up some points or this on could have gotten boring. 1,210 yards combined for Rutgers and ASU. Most ever in a bowl game.

Sometimes I hate it when I'm right. Colorado put up a valiant effort, but they couldn't overcome not having their senior starting quarterback or their head coach. In the end Clemson ran with it. I definitely didn't think that the Buff's would put up this kind of fight. I was rooting for them.

My Record: 4-3
DeAngelo Williams is in my opinion the best RB in upcoming draft. With 233 yards rushing and 3 TD's he cemented his place in history as one of the best college RB's ever. He passed Tony Dorsette and Archie Griffin for the most 100 yard games in NCAA history, 34. The Zips first bowl appearance was anything but disappointing. Akron put Memphis to the test and was one onside kick recovery from making this game a classic.

My Record: 3-3
UCF gave one heck of run at it in the 4th to push for OT. Unfortunately for the Black Knights their kicker who had made 3 field goals earlier in the night missed the tying extra point to force another over time. Nevada had a backfield that put up over 300 yards rushing and 6 TD's. This was a great game with 97 total points combined. A must have for these mid bowls that nobody cares about.

So one of my few Big XII pics have come through for me. As you all have noticed I'm behind on my Bowl watching. So there are a few a games out there that I have already seen. Hopefully by the end of today I will have all of the ones I haven't seen watched! There is only like 4 or 3 that I haven't watched yet. The others are already ready to post.
Mangino and his boys played tough. Solid defensive play, which they have had all season. Most people don't know that KU had one of the best run defenses in the nation. Over 500 yards of offense and 300 through the air. Houston should stayed home. KU and Mangino are looking good for the future!
The Run Around
Top 5 Christmas Movies
One of the great things about this time of the year is Christmas movies. Their are some great ones out there and I thought I would give my top 5 Christmas movies.
5. Home Alone 2: The great fun that ensue when Kevin runs into the crooks he sent to jail while being lost in New York is priceless. Just like the 1st one when they come after him and he has the whole house booby trapped is great. But I love the seen in the hotel where his "dad" is in the shower. Good stuff.
4. Scrooged: A lot of people didn't catch this movie when it came out. I remember going to the theaters with my parents thinking the theater would be full and it was just us on 2 other people. This is a great twist on Dickens classic. Bill Murray is great!!!!!!!
3. Home Alone: Our first introduction to Kevin and his wacky-massive family. I saw this as a youngster and its probably the first Christmas comedy I can remember being exposed to. As I mentioned for the 2nd one, house seens are the best.
2. A Christmas Story: I absolutely love this movie. Definetly on my all time favorite list. "You'll shot your eye out with that thing!" How true.
1. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation: The Best! Very Best! I have to see this movie not only at Christmas time but throughout the year. The sledding scene is the absolute best. Fooling with the lights is priceless. That is so going to be my house someday.
So there is was folks. Let me hear yours!! I want input. What did I leave off?

Good thing I wasn't in Vegas laying beats on my pics. That's right folks I'm officially 1-2. But that's ok. Because this was a good game and that's what matters, at least to me.
I really enjoyed this game. Cal pretty much took the lead and never let go, but BYU put up a good fight. Calls running back Lynch ran for 194 yards and 3 TD's. He was just plane amazing to watch.
I'm slowly starting to watch all of these bowl games that I've missed. Hopefully, maybe, tomorrow I can knock them all out and put my input out there for the world to critique.

He Has Returned
Thats right folks the kid who led us to the promised land is returning. With the departure of Offensive Coordinator Chuck Long the QB's Coaching position was left open. After a couple of years of testing out the NFL. Josh Heupel came back to OU for 2 years to GA. He was hired last year by OU's former Defensive Coordinator Mike Stoops. While at Arizona he coached Tight Ends. I personally think this is a great addition for the OU staff and for our young gun slinger Rhett Bomar.

Toledo 45
University of Texas El Paso 13
Pic: Toledo
My Pic: UTEP
There it is folks I am officially 1-1 on my pics. This was a bowl game that I was definetly looking forward to. It can only be described for me as - disappointment. I'm not upset that Toledo won, they are a great ball club and very deserving. The score is what is frustrating. I billed this as a barn burner, a game that was gonna have a combined 100 points. Oh well.
Toledo capitalized early and put up 21 points in the 2nd quarter. It wasn't looking to bad going into half it was 13-28 Toledo. But right before the half was over Jordan Palmer came up limping. And it was all over from there. The magic number is 1. As in 1 whole yard for UTEP during the 3rd quarter.
Bruce Gradkowski put on a clinic for Toledo. He was 18-30, 289 yds and 5 passing TD's. He helped stretch the MAC's winning streaking in the GMAC Bowl to 5-0.
I won't be posting about tonight's, Friday's, and Saturday's Bowl games till after Christmas. But don't worry I've got them set to record on the old faithful DVR. They are sure to be good ones.

University of Southern Miss. 31
Arizona State University 19

My Pic: USM
1 down and only 27 more to go. So was surprised at how enjoyable this game was. It was a little back and forth. Plus sloppy play makes for excitement, especially when you really have no ties to either school. The magic number is 5. As in 5 total turnovers. Lots of mistakes for both of these teams. Arizona State hung in there and gave it a run for a while. But when they failed to match Southern Miss with a TD the golden eagles took over for good. Congrats to Southern Miss. a team that has met a lot of adversity this year because of Hurricane Katrina. They spent the preseason practicing at Memphis and didn't have a true home game for 5 or 6 games. The just finished off their regular season playing 4 games in 18 days.
Look out tonight Toledo/UTEP. I expect 100 combined points. This is a must see!!!!!!!

Decision Made....Shawnee Done
It was decided Thursday by the Oklahoma Supreme Court that Shawnee Starting Quarterback Tucker Brown would sit and the OSSAA's ruling would be upheld. In all honesty, that's ok.
To tell you the truth I bet Bobby Brown, Tuckers dad and Wolves Head Coach, probably feels the same way. A lot people had made assumptions about this case and didn't find out all the facts. The Brown family does not condone fighting, nor did they think Tucker shouldn't be punished. What they did want out of all of this, is for everybody to be held accountable for their actions. When Bobby Brown appealed to OSSAA after the game he expected for Tucker to have to sit, but he also thought a few of the Booker T. Washingtons players would be sitting come next fall too.
Shawnee finally got to play their semi final match up against Tulsa East Central. Tulsa East Central proved why they are number 1 in class 5A with their thrashing of Shawnee. I truly don't think it would have mattered if Tucker would have played.
One thing that did come out of the whole situation and after watching the Tulsa East Central game. I don't know if I want to coach in Oklahoma. I unfortunately witnessed to horrible officiating crews back to back. I don't know if the OSSAA has a govern body or whatever you would call if for its referee's, but they need one. They need to be held accountable for their action on the field by a group of their peers. During the Booker T. Washington game their was a lot of unnecessary hitting and kicking going on that the ref's did nothing about. The unfortunate thing is that they were seeing it, allowing, and without taking action condoning it. And then you end up with the situation we had with Shawnee and the Brown family. During the Tulsa East game a mini brawl broke out consisting of 4 or 6 players hitting and kicking each other. The crazy thing about it all if you were at the game or was able to see the game film you would see the head referee (the one with the white hat) standing right beside it. I understand ref's are human and they are doing their best. But,this is their job and their has to be some standards that have to be met. I applaud Shawnee and Tulsa East for keeping their kids in control the best they could, because very easily a nasty event could have taken place.
On a lighter note, how disappointing is it that nobody commented on my bowl game predictions. To bad, probably one of the more fun blogs I do.

Bowling Baby!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it is that time again!! It is bitter sweet for me. Bowl games are great, with the creation of the BCS bowl games are a ton of fun, but it signifies the end of the season. So I'm gonna give my bowl breakdown with a little commentary for the few that interest me. This will be a long post, but shouldn't be to hard to read through and it shouldn't take you long. So enjoy!!
New Orleans Bowl
Layfeyette, LA
December 20
ESPN 8 pm et.
University Southern Mississippi (6-5) vs. Arkansas State (6-5)
Pic: USM
My Pic: USM
Reason To Watch: Well if you miss the first one you can't watch all 28! Southern Miss is the defending New Orleans Bowl Champs. This is ASU's first bowl since becoming a division I eligible. The bowl game was moved to Lafayette because of the hurricane.
GMAC Bowl
Mobile, AL
December 21
ESPN 8 pm et.
Toledo (8-3) vs. University of Texas El Paso
Pic: Toledo
My Pic: UTEP
Reason To Watch: I word - Quarterbacks. Leading the way for UTEP is Jordan Palmer (Carson Palmers little brother) and gun slinging for the Rockets is Bruce Gradkowski. Both of these guys are sitting on draft boards across NFL. A MAC team has never lost the GMAC Bowl. This one will be exciting!
Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl
Las Vegas, NV
December 22
ESPN 8 pm et.
Brigham Young University (6-5) vs. California (7-4)
Pic: Cal
My Pic: BYU
Reason To Watch: BYU's QB, John Beck, possible could be next years Brady Quinn. To young teams that looked liked contenders but just didn't pan out.
San Diego Coutny Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
San Diego, CA
December 22
ESPN2 10:30 pm et.
Colorado State (6-5) vs. Navy (7-4)
Pic: Navy
My Pic: Navy
Reason To Watch: No. 1 rushing offense in the nation. You don't get to see the option ran to perfection any more like you will if you watch this game. Its gonna be in San Diego where there is a big Navy base, so you will get to see all those uniforms cheering on there boys.
Fort Worth Bowl
Fort Worth, TX
December 23
ESPN 8 pm et.
Kansas (6-5) vs. Houston (6-5)
Pic: Kansas
My Pic: Kansas
Reason To Watch: Two teams that got bowl eligible by the skin of their teeth. Houston hasn't won a bowl game since 1980 and Kansas hasn't won a bowl game in 10 years. Something has to give.
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Honolulu, HA
December 24
ESPN 8:30 pm et.
Nevada (8-3) vs. University of Central Florida (8-4)
Pic: Nevada
My Pic: UCF
Reason To Watch: What's better than Hawaii on Christmas Eve. George O'Leery's (that's right the "I lied on my resume to Notre Dame" George O'Leery) Black Knights are looking good a removed fromtheir 0-11 season. This is their first trip to a bowl game in their 10 year existence. This game looks like it will be a good one.
Motor City Bowl
Detroit, MI
December 26
ESPN 4 pm et.
Memphis (6-5) vs. Akron (7-5)
Pic: Memphis
My Pic: Memphis
Reason To Watch: The active leading rusher in NCAA with over 5000 yards, DeAngelo Williams. Pretty much the only reason Memphis got this bowl or anyother (Star Power). Any team nicknamed The Zips is worth watching. This is the Zips first bowl game since become a division I team. Akron was the only team to not go to a bowl last year that was eligible.
Champs Sports Bowl
Orlando, FL
December 27
ESPN 5 pm et.
Clemson (7-4) vs. Colorado (7-5)
Pic: Clemson
My Pic: Clemson
Reason To Watch: I hate picking against a Big XII team but the buffs are coming off a 3 game losing streak and just got demolish 70-3 by Texas in the Big XII title game. Clemson is coming off 3 straight wins. I hope I'm wrong with this one.
Insight Bowl
Phoenix, AZ
December 27
ESPN 8:30 pm et.
Arizona State (6-5) vs. Rutgers (7-4)
Pic: ASU
My Pic: ASU
Reason To Watch: Its not every year that you get to see Rutgers in a Bowl game. Arizona State was the Pac 10 team that was supposed to surprise everybody. Maybe they will surprise Rutgers.
MPC Computers Bowl
Boise, ID
December 28
ESPN 4:30 pm et.
Boise State (9-3) vs. Boston College (8-3)
Pic: Boise State
My Pic: Boston College
Reason To Watch: I'm going with he upset. Boise loves it when one of the big schools comes to their home turf. Boise is 45-1 at home since 1999 and are on a 31 home win streak. Boston College has won 5 straight bowl game, a nations best. I think they aren't going to be intimidated by that blue turf and make it six straight.
MasterCard Alamo Bowl
San Antonio, TX
December 28
ESPN 8 pm et.
Michigan (7-4) vs. Nebraska (7-4)
Pic: Michigan
My Pic: Michigan
Reason To Watch: Once again I'm going to have to go against another Big XII team. I a hope I am wrong on this one too. Two big tradition teams going at each other, the only thing better would be if it was in January.
Emerald Bowl
San Francisco, CA
December 29
ESPN 4:30 pm et.
Georgia Tech (7-4) vs. Utah (6-5)
Pic: GT
My Pic: GT
Reason To Watch: Will GT show up or are they feeling sorry for themselves getting the Emerald Bowl.
Pacific Life Holiday Bowl
San Diego, CA
December 29
ESPN 8 pm et.
Oregon (10-1) vs. Oklahoma (7-4)
Pic: Oregon
My Pic: Oklahoma
Reason To Watch: The reasons are obvious for me any chance to se OU play is a good one. The spread on this game is like 3 points. My sooners are gonna hang at least 3 plus TD's on these quacks.
Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl
Nashville, TN
December 30
ESPN 12:00 pm et.
Minnesota (7-4) vs. Virginia (6-5)
Pic: Minnesota
My Pic: Minnesota

Vitalis Sun Bowl
El Paso, TX
December 30
CBS 2 pm et.
Northwestern (7-4) vs UCLA (9-2)
Pic: UCLA
My Pic: UCLA
Reason To Watch: This is the barn burner you've been waiting for. Lots of points, probably a hundred combined. I give to UCLA because their defense will make a stop every now and then.
Independence Bowl
Shreveport, LA
December 30
ESPN 3:30 pm et.
South Carolina (7-5) vs. Missouri
Pic: South Carolina
My Pic: Missouri
Reason To Watch: The Ole Ball Coach has the Gamecocks in a bowl game his first year on the job. The Gamecocks don't put up a lot of numbers, I think Missouri just might be able to get into the endzone a couple more times.
Chik-fil-A Peach Bowl
Atlanta, GA
December 30
ESPN 7:30 pm et.
Miami (9-2) vs. LSU
Pick:
My Pick: Miami
Reason To Watch: Probably the best non BCS bowl. Two really good defenses .
Meineke Car Care Bowl
Charlotte, NC
December 31
ESPN2 11 am et.
South Florida (6-5) vs. NC State (6-5)
Pic: NC State
My Pic: NC State
Reason To Watch: Not going to lie to ya, this one is going to be a bore. South Florida's first bowl game.
AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Memphis, TN
December 31
ESPN 1 pm et.
Tulsa (8-4) vs. Fresno State (8-4)
Pic: Fresno State
My Pic: Tulsa
Reason To Watch: This is going to be another barn burner. Fresno State ended the season on a rough note and I don't think they will recover in time to defeat Tulsa.
EV1.net Houston Bowl
Houston, TX
December 31
ESPN 2:30 pm et.
TCU (10-1) vs. Iowa State (7-4)
Pic: TCU
My Pic: TCU
Reason To Watch: Another game that just may not matter in the grand scheme of things.
AT&T Cotton Bowl
Dallas, TX
January 2
Fox 11 am et.
Texas Tech (9-2) vs. Alabama (9-2)
Pic: Texas Tech
My Pic: Texas Tech
Reason To Watch: Red Raiders high powered offense and a crimson tide team that needed a defense to score when their offense couldn't. Finally a Big XII team that I think will legitimately win their bowl game.
Outback Bowl
Tampa, FL
January 2
ESPN 11 am et.
Iowa (7-4) vs. Florida (8-3)
Pic: Florida
My Pic: Iowa
Reason To Watch: Urban Meyers daunted spread offense collapse with Chris Leak running the show. If Florida wins it will calm the gator nation and all the Spurrier Nation. Iowa is a good late season and bowl team I'm pulling for the upset.
Toyota Gator Bowl
Jacksonville, FL
January 2
NBC 12:30 pm et.
Louisville (9-2) vs. Virginia Tech (10-2)
Pic: VT
My Pic: VT
Reason To Watch: Michael, I mean Maru Vick. The kid is a stud and any time you get see this kid play, do.
Capitol One Bowl
Orlando, FL
January 2
ABC 1 pm et.
Wisconsin (9-3) vs. Auburn (9-2)
Pic: Auburn
My Pic: Wisconsin
Reason To Watch: Barry Alvarez's last game. Wisconsin I believe will be riding high on emotion.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Tempe, AZ
January 2
ABC 4:30
Notre Dame (9-2) vs. Ohio State (9-2)
Pic: Ohio State
My Pic: Notre Dame
Reason Top Watch: The Golden Domers are gonna win their first BCS bowl game under new Head Coach Charlie Weis. This is old School and its gonna be a lot of fun watching my pick for the Heisman (Brady Quinn) tear up that daunted "The Ohio State" defense.
Nokia Sugar Bowl
Atlanta, GA
January 2
ABC 8:30 pm et.
West Virginia (10-1) vs. Georgia (10-2)
Pic: Georgia
My Pic: Georgia
Reason To Watch: D.J. Shockley is exciting. Probably the least attractive of all the BCS Bowl games. But its usually the unsuspecting ones that will be the most exciting.
FedEx Orange Bowl
Miami, FL
January 3
ABC 8 pm et.
Penn State (10-1) vs. Florida State (8-4)
Pic: PSU
My Pic: PSU
Reason To Watch: This is as old school as it gets. Leave all your throwbacks at home, because all the throw back you need is strolling both the sidelines. Florida State is coming off a big Conference Title Championship, but that I don't think is enough to overcome Penn State this year.
Rose Bowl
Pasadena, CA
January 4
ABC 8 pm
University of Southern California (12-0) vs. Texas (12-0)
Pic: USC
My Pic: USC
Reason To Watch: To be honest with you I would like to see both of these guys lose. USC ihas to much talent for Texas to compete with. I would like for Texas to win this for the Big XII, because what's good for the Big XII is good for OU. Wonder how many points it will take to bring Texas back to reality?
So there is is folks my bowl break own. I'm pretty sure I put more time into this than any of you will put into watching a bowl game. But that is ok,cause I had a good time.
New Orleans Bowl

Arizona State (6-5) vs. Rutgers (7-4)

My Pic: ASU
Reason To Watch: Its not every year that you get to see Rutgers in a Bowl game. Arizona State was the Pac 10 team that was supposed to surprise everybody. Maybe they will surprise Rutgers.
MPC Computers Bowl

ESPN 4:30 pm et.
Boise State (9-3) vs. Boston College (8-3)
Pic: Boise State
My Pic: Boston College
Reason To Watch: I'm going with he upset. Boise loves it when one of the big schools comes to their home turf. Boise is 45-1 at home since 1999 and are on a 31 home win streak. Boston College has won 5 straight bowl game, a nations best. I think they aren't going to be intimidated by that blue turf and make it six straight.
MasterCard Alamo Bowl
San Antonio, TX

Michigan (7-4) vs. Nebraska (7-4)

My Pic: Michigan
Reason To Watch: Once again I'm going to have to go against another Big XII team. I a hope I am wrong on this one too. Two big tradition teams going at each other, the only thing better would be if it was in January.
Emerald Bowl
San Francisco, CA

Oregon (10-1) vs. Oklahoma (7-4)
Pic: Oregon
My Pic: Oklahoma
Reason To Watch: The reasons are obvious for me any chance to se OU play is a good one. The spread on this game is like 3 points. My sooners are gonna hang at least 3 plus TD's on these quacks.

Vitalis Sun Bowl

Northwestern (7-4) vs UCLA (9-2)
Pic: UCLA
My Pic: UCLA
Reason To Watch: This is the barn burner you've been waiting for. Lots of points, probably a hundred combined. I give to UCLA because their defense will make a stop every now and then.
Independence Bowl
Shreveport, LA
December 30
ESPN 3:30 pm et.
South Carolina (7-5) vs. Missouri
Pic: South Carolina
My Pic: Missouri
Reason To Watch: The Ole Ball Coach has the Gamecocks in a bowl game his first year on the job. The Gamecocks don't put up a lot of numbers, I think Missouri just might be able to get into the endzone a couple more times.
Chik-fil-A Peach Bowl
Atlanta, GA
December 30
ESPN 7:30 pm et.
Miami (9-2) vs. LSU
Pick:
My Pick: Miami
Reason To Watch: Probably the best non BCS bowl. Two really good defenses .
Meineke Car Care Bowl

ESPN2 11 am et.
South Florida (6-5) vs. NC State (6-5)

AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Memphis, TN
December 31
ESPN 1 pm et.
Tulsa (8-4) vs. Fresno State (8-4)
Pic: Fresno State
My Pic: Tulsa
Reason To Watch: This is going to be another barn burner. Fresno State ended the season on a rough note and I don't think they will recover in time to defeat Tulsa.
EV1.net Houston Bowl
Houston, TX
December 31
ESPN 2:30 pm et.
TCU (10-1) vs. Iowa State (7-4)
Pic: TCU
My Pic: TCU
Reason To Watch: Another game that just may not matter in the grand scheme of things.
AT&T Cotton Bowl
Dallas, TX
January 2
Fox 11 am et.
Texas Tech (9-2) vs. Alabama (9-2)
Pic: Texas Tech
My Pic: Texas Tech
Reason To Watch: Red Raiders high powered offense and a crimson tide team that needed a defense to score when their offense couldn't. Finally a Big XII team that I think will legitimately win their bowl game.
Outback Bowl
Tampa, FL
January 2
ESPN 11 am et.
Iowa (7-4) vs. Florida (8-3)
Pic: Florida
My Pic: Iowa
Reason To Watch: Urban Meyers daunted spread offense collapse with Chris Leak running the show. If Florida wins it will calm the gator nation and all the Spurrier Nation. Iowa is a good late season and bowl team I'm pulling for the upset.
Toyota Gator Bowl
Jacksonville, FL
January 2
NBC 12:30 pm et.
Louisville (9-2) vs. Virginia Tech (10-2)

Controversy?
High school football is one of America's greatest past times. In the great state of Oklahoma Classes 6A-3A are deciding their state championships this weekend. Except for class 5A. The semi finale match up between Tulsa East Central and Shawnee High School has been post poned indefinitely since early last week.
Two weeks ago when Shawnee was playing their quarterfinale matchup against Tulsa Booker T. Washington in the final 19 secs. of play, A Booker T. Washington player jumped offsides and grabbed Shawnee's Quarter Back by the face mask and jerked him to the ground. Shawnee's QB then kicked at the Booker T. Washington player.
That was the easy part. The ref's threw their flags and preceded to take 10 plus minutes in deciding what penalties were to be called. During this time the refs were huddled over the ball the Booker T. Washington was allowed to beinvolved in their conversation. Shawnees head coach tried on multiple occasions to be allowed in the conversation as well, but the refs continued to instruct him back to his sidelines. Penalties were decided and Shawnees QB was thrown out along with one of Booker T. Washington defenders. OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association - Basically the governing body of all OK extra curricular activities) rules state that anyone ejected from a high school football game is required to sit out the next 2 regularly scheduled games. Its the "regularly scheduled" that has us waiting for the conclusion to the high school football season. An injuction was filed by the QB's mother the week after the game. The judge ruled in the families favor and it looked as if the game would be played with the QB resuming his starting duties. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday the OSSAA was not able to file an appeal with the OK Supreme Court before the game was to be played the postponed the game indefinitely. This past Monday OSSAA filed their appeal. As of Right now the appeal has not been heard. OSSAA has till tomorrow to file there written evidence and the Brown family (QB) has till Monday to file there evidence. They are hoping that the game will be played by Friday Dec. 10.
Now on to the fun part, my opinion. I was fortunate enough to attend this football game. It was a dirty game that was allowed to be dirty. The refs did nothing to stop the punching and kicking that was going on. If you now me, I really don't have a problem with that. Football is and aggressive, violent, and mean game. As long as no fights are breaking out and its not getting out of hand then its all good by my standards. The probable on that Saturday night was the ref crew had there face rubbed into the fact that they had allowed a dirty game to go on and with 19 secs left they decided it was time for them to take control. The Booker T. Washington coach was in the refs huddle and he lobbied for his team, which he had every right to do. At that time I feel the refs had it shoved in their face that they saw the kick and did nothing about it.
Now, I don't think the Shawnee QB should get off scott free. I believe whole heartedly what he did was wrong and he was caught and should be punished. But as the rules states he should sit out the first 2 games of next year, because they regularly scheduled. The Booker T. Washington player that was ejected, since there team lost would have to sit out the first two games of next season. Which by the way are non-district games and bear no meaning on their season. But he is a senior and he is having to sit out the first to basketball games of the season. My question is what if he wasn't involved in anything else, there is no "stated punishment" for seniors that would no longer be involved extra curricular activities.
I'm rooting for the Brown the family. As a future football coach I believe the rules set by the OSSAA need to be seriously looked at and rewritten. There needs to be a review board for all high school referee's. There are some really bad refing crews out there and they need to be held accountable. Let the kid play, football is a high emotion game. And for those of you out there that don't know the Shawnee QB didn't cock back and kick the Booker T. Washington kid it was one of those "get off me" jab kicks. Not that that should matter, but from my view point it wasn't a kick done to meant harm.
