So can I stay above .500? I guess that Maryland team that I predicted to show up, didn't and Oregon State is good enough. That's right I'm eating my words right now. But, I can handle it. Oregon State's Yvenson Bernard had a god night with 38 carries 177 yards and 1 TD. He would have 2 TD's, but he fumbled going in to the end zone, but teamate James Rogers recovered for the TD.

I'm not gonna lie, I just thought it was cool that they had two Texas schools in the Texas Bowl. The TCU D held the nations 3rd best RB to just 30 yards. TCU's freshman QB Andy Dalton had a good night with 21 of 30 for 249 yards and he ran one in him self.

There were hopes of another last second game deciding play, but with just over 2 minutes left BC's Paul Anderson intercepted Michigan State's QB Brian Hoyer. BC's QB Matt Ryan was 22-47 for 249 yards and 3 TD's. Which is even more impressive when you take into account that they only had 0.9 yards per carry!

OK, so this just keep getting worse for me and my pics. But, that's ok, I am still enjoying the game. I kept waiting for Texas to blow. Especially after Mac Browns step son touched a loose ball that Texas recovered. The result was a personal foul on Texas and ASU scored on the next play. At that point it was 21-7, and ASU had the momentum. But after Texas held them on there next possession, the Longhorns went to work.

This Bowl season has been great so far! I know I lost another pic, but this was great. A crazy 3rd quarter for the Chippewas to pull them back in the game and a tying TD with a minute to go. But, the Boilermakers had a different ending planned for this one. With time running out Purdues Chris Summers hit a 40 yard field goal to win it.

Holy crap! Didn't see this happening. Hawaii's just not a good place to the Broncho's. The Pirates Chris Johnson had a great night with 223 yards on 28 carries. Johnson also set the NCAA record for most yards in a game with the 223 yards rushing, 32 receiving yards and 153 return yards for a grand total of 408 total yards on the night. This was another game that came down to a last play field goal to win. East Carolina's Ben Hartman hit a 34 yard field goal to win the game as time expired. Hope somebody is watching all these games too, good football going on!

This one was exciting down to the end. When BYU's Eathyn Manumaleuna blocked a UCLA game winning field goal. BYU gets their 10th win in a row to go 11-2 on the year. The Cougars ended season with their 2nd straight, the last time they did that was 1983, 1984.

This game is full of fun numbers. 329, thats how many games it has been since Nevada was shutout. Not since 1980 has the wolfpack laid a goose egg. 46 thats how many years it has been since the Lobos had won a bowl game. 10, in his 10th year as the Lobos head coach Rocky Long gets his 1st bowl win. This one coming in his 5th try. Not much else to say about this one. The Lobos put on a beating.

Ole Howie Schnelenberger now has a 5-0 record in bowl games. This is a crazy story for the Owls. They didn't even have football a few years ago and the old coach said they were going to have a team and that they would be competitive. He was right. FAU's Rusty Smith was a phenomenal. He threw for 336 yards and 5 TD's. Memphis kept it a game till a blocked punt in the 3rd and the Owls scored 2 plays later to go up 37-27. I don't know why, but I like FAU's logo and colors, I know I'm odd.

What a great way to start off the bowl season. This one came right down to the final couple of seconds. Navy even broke out the most exciting play in football, the onside kick. After just scoring to close to within 3 the midshipman successfully converted the onside kick with just 50 seconds left in the game. Unfortunately their luck ran out when Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada (the best name in college football) was intercepted by the Utes Joe Dale. On a downside I lost my first pic of the college football bowl season, but it was a good game!

Bowl Hysteria 2007!!!

*Note: The list is not completed yet. My pics and the reasons to watch are not completed. They will be soon, but since the Poinsettia Bowl is tonight I wanted to get this on here. The first couple days of Bowls are completed.

It is that time again! We are on the verge of probably the most controversial and talked about college football season. BCS, stay or go? I don't really care I'm enjoying it now and would probably enjoy it if we had a playoff system. As an OU fan a playoff system sounds nice right now. But, we hurt ourselves.
Alright folks here is the challenge. Watch at least 3 bowl games, as always I am going to do my best to watch them all (With some help from the DVR). Then I will break each one down after it is completed. The past 2 years I have had the same results, with a difference of 3 games. I have been able to finish with 3 more wins than losses, hopefully this year I can get a couple more right. Look forward to the comments. Well enough of all that junk. It is time to get into the bowls baby!

Utah (7-5) vs. Navy (10-2)

Accuscore: Utah 61%
My Pic: Navy

Reason To Watch:
This is Navy's second appearance in the Poinsettia Bowl and they are hoping that this appearance will be as nice as their 2005 showing. Beating Colorado State 51-30. Navy has the nations top offense and they will face the top scoring defense in the Utes. Don't think the departure of Navy's head coach will be a factor. They hired an assistance the very next day. I think the old triple option will end Utah's streak of 6 straight bowl wins.

Florida Atlantic U. (7-5) vs. Memphis (7-5)

Accuscore: Memphis 52%

Reason To Watch:
Florida Atlantic didn't even have football before 2001. Howard Schnellenberger has brought the Owls along quickly. When they beat Troy they received a share of their conference title. Now they are looking to get their first bowl win, in their first bowl appearance, to go along with their first conference title. Memphis looked to be on another disastrous trail when they started 2-4, but had since went 5-1 and locked up their 4th bowl game in 5 years.

Reason To Watch:
It will be the final game for Southern Miss. Coach Bower. He has been at the helm for 17 years. His golden eagles will not go down without a fight. The Bearcats have just completed their best season since 1953. Coach Kelly has the Bearcats in great position to keep on winning.

Reason To Watch:
This is a definite toss up game. The accuscore is almost giving this one an even push. They have the Lobos barely over 50% to give them the edge. I think the main factor in on that is likely to be this close is New Mexico is getting a home game. Getting to play this game in their home stadium.

Reason To Watch:
This is BYU's 3rd straight appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl. BYU will be looking to exact a little revenge from there 27-17 beating they took from UCLA earlier this year. UCLA being with out their head coach will leave them wide open for BYU to open it up and put a beating on the Bruins. The Las Vegas Bowl is a second home to BYU this being their 3rd straight appearance in Vegas.

Reason To Watch:
Boise States last trip to Hawaii cost them a share of the WAC title. This trip however will be more festive. The Broncos coming off a big upset last year in the BCS may be a little down after their last trip to the Big Island cost them a shot at a second straight BCS game, but I don’t think so. Boise will play all out again and their offense will be humming.

Reason To Watch:
That’s right folks upset alert! The Chippewa’s are coming off a good season that saw them win the MAC championship in fine fashion, beating Miami (OH) 35-10. QB Dan LeFeveor is the only the second QB, along side Vince Young, to have 3000 passing yards and 1000 rushing yards in a season. Purdue went 3-5 in a weak in a weak Big 10. This is a different and better team than the Boilermakers beat earlier in the year.

Reason To Watch:
This is two teams that are both feeling a let down. They just feel short of being in the BCS mix. This is a return for Texas who made plenty of appearances before some QB named Vince Young pushed the longhorns to national prominence. The Sun Devils coming off one of their best seasons since 1996. This could one of the better earlier games. Look for the two teams to air it out.

Reason To Watch:
The Maryland Terps are a story of two different teams. One that beats two top 10 teams and on that self implodes and finishes the year 6-6. OSU is a good team as always, as of late, they just aren't good enough. The Beavers can't find a way into the PAC-10 championship and a BCS birth. If you the Terps that can get it done show up, Oregon will have a fight on their hands.

Reason To Watch:
Central Florida had dreams of the BCS and the National Championship at one point this season. But that all came crashing down on them. You will get to see the Black Knights RB Kevin Smith who has rushed for 2,448 yards. He is closing in on Barry Sanders single season rushing record and could break it during the bowl game. Sylvester Croom has got the bulldogs playing in great fashion and is probably the SEC coach of the year.

Reason To Watch:
The Aggies head coach was forced to resign under a lot of scrutiny. Joe Pa will be coaching his 500th game. With the Aggies being coached by their defensive coordinator for one game, seeing as to how they have already hired their next head coach, there is not much stability in the program. I’m looking forward to watching Paterno on the sidelines.

Colorado vs. Alabama

Accuscore: Alabama 65%

Reason To Watch:
John Parker Wilson is good. Alabama’s QB will be slinging the ball all over the place and the Crimson Tide has better athletes than Colorado. This is a bowl game that has 2 teams that have 2 different personalities. Alabama beat the snot out of Tennessee and the proceeded to lose the last two games of the regular season, which included a loss to Louisiana Monroe. Which Colorado team will show up, the one that beat Oklahoma and hung with Kansas or the team that got beat on by Iowa State.

Two years in a row the Boise State Broncho's aren't manning the sideline of their home field Bowl. The yellowjackets are going to have to what they do best, stop the run. Interim Head Coach and current Defensive Coordinator is excited to put his D to the test and getting to man the head spot, even if it's just for one day. Both of these teams previous trips to the Smurf Turf were successful ones.

Oklahoma State (6-6) vs. Indiana (7-5)

Reason To Watch:
Indiana is the feel good bowl team of the year. Making their first bowl game in 14 years. Even though the Pokes Offensive Coordinator has moved, I don't see much of a difference for the O. The Hoosiers have no chance in the game. But, this is what Bowl games are all about. A team having a good year and getting rewarded for it.

Clemson's balanced offense will be tested by Auburn's top Defense. These teams have met a lot in the past, around 45 times since 1899. The last time they met was in 1998 in the Peach Bowl with Auburn winning 21-17. There's a whole lot of tradition between these two teams, it will be fun seeing it all clash.

Sorry

I know its been a while since you have heard any ramblings from this fool. I am now officially a college graduate. I don't really know if that means much. It hasn't paid off yet. Life has been real crazy and stressful the past couple of months. Just to make a long story short, I finished student teaching, coached baseball, had to deal with pledging. I'm just glad its all over.

For those of you in the know, I had an interview at Choctaw. It apparently went very well. I was told that I had a good chance of getting the job. That it basically depending on how I did on the Biology OSAT. Well, in true fashion, I did not pass the OSAT. So I have signed back up for the test. I don't take it again until June 23. So mark that calendar and make it the pray for Matt, that he might pass this stupid test day!

As of right now I really don't know what to do. Whether send out resumes to other places or see if this will work out. I really want it to work out!

Graduation was Saturday, maybe I can get some pics up here soon.

Bowl Season Is Over: Time For Some Fun Facts 17-14

So it's finally all over. I had a good time despite OU losing in the Fiesta Bowl. Just for Mike next post will be one Big XII vs. Big East. So look forward to that one. I've really gotten into picking the Bowl games. I'm still not that good at it, but I think I did a little better than last year. I guess we can just jump right into it.

In picking the BCS games ESPN was 3-2 and I went 4-1. If it wasn't for that debacle in Glendale, Arizona, I would have gone a perfect 5-0 in the major bowl games. But that's neither here nor there. My overall record this year in the Bowl games was 17-14, ESPN went 20-11. So if you are a betting man, you should probably go with ESPN. Unless you are picking the BCS games ;). Last year I went 15-12, so I basically did the same, with a difference of 3 games. But, I like to think I did better since I got more games right. In the games that I picked wrong 6 of the teams I picked lost by a TD or less. 5 of them lost by 3 or less and 3 of them only lost by 1 point. Just some fun facts, I know they don't really mean anything. The games that I got wrong and the team lost by more than at TD were some serious blowouts. Of the 8 that lost by more than a TD only 1 was by 8 and only 2 were under 2 TD's. 3 of them lost by at least 3 TD's.

I guess all that's left now is waiting for next year. Man, I'm ready for football season!!!

Florida came out aggressive and full of piss and vinegar. Urban Meyers gators were amazing. His game plan was great. I loved the plays and the play calling. Ohio State was freakin horrible. They were totally flat and still had a chance to win it coming out in the second half, but they didn't make any changes at the half. Heres to Florida!!!!

Watched a little of this one, these pointless bowls stuck right in the middle of the BCS Bowls is retarded. I wish they wouldn't do that. But, on to the game. Ohio played like I expected, except for that 2nd quarter. They gave up 21 points in the 2nd and lost by 21 points. Ohio couldn't really get anything going offensively. Maybe next year Ohio will finally win their first bowl game, maybe.

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't watch this one. I flipped it over to check the score every now and then. I'll give you smoe info on the game. The international bowl was the first one played in Cananda and the first played outside the US since 1937. Cincinnati was up 24-0 in the 3rd and then Western Michigan's offense and Deffense came alive. Scoring 24 unansewred point to tie the game, but they let Cincinnati get a field goal to win it.

Holy Crap, did Notre Dame get their butt kicked. All of the "stars" of the Fighting Irish just plained sucked it up. All the big names they have and LSU came out and said, "Who's your daddy?" If Jamarcus Russell stays at LSU look for him to a front runner for the Heisman. He was outstanding, making Brady Quinn look like a Div. III loser. This game looked competitive in the first half, but LSU put on a clinic in the 2nd half. Is Charlie Weiss ever going to end the 9 straight bowl game losing streak?

So I don't think many people saw this happening. I'll even venture out and say most of the Boise State loyalist didn't see this happening. Heck, I bet there were some guys in that locker room that didn't see this happening. I sure didn't. Boise State played good, hands down. They didn't put themselves in a position to lose this game. OU didn't play well in the first half or second half. Only in the final minutes did they seem to play sooner football. Boise State took advantage of OU and their poor play. All the theatrics at the end were amazing! Boise State coach Chris Peterson deserves a ton of credit. He went head to head with one of the nations top teams and played heads up football, and won. He didn't need any bag of tricks till late in the game. And when the game is on the line, any team and any coach will try anything. Big Props go out to Boise State and their coach Chris Peterson. Couldn't ask for more in a bowl game, except for an OU win! :)

This game started out nothing like I thought it would. Both teams going in at the half tied at 3 was shocking. But, you had to know that there would be some fireworks in the second half. Somebody would start pressing and trying to make things happen. Either big plays or turnovers would be the result. Michigan's big play man, Mike Hart, was anything but. hart was held by the USC D to only 47 yards. USC's Booty and Jarrett had all star performances. Booty threw for 391 yards and 4 TD's and Jarrett caught 2 TD's and racked up 203 yards. Jarrett needed a big night if he wanted to make his way in the draft, and he did just that.

This is another game that I thought was a lock...and I was wrong. During the game I just felt like we were waiting for Arkansas to take the game over and then time just ran out. The Razorback D was strong against the run, holding Wisconsin to -4 yards on the ground. Basically Wisconsin got a lead early and just kept it smart. They didn't try anything fancy and didn't take any unnecessary risks.

Mountaineers Climb The Gator

Know here was some scoring. It didn't look good for the Mountaineers early down 35-17. The QB's were great in this game. GT's Taylor Bennett, stepping in for Reggie Ball, did great. He threw for over 300 yards and 3 TD's. Possible the best WR in the draft Calvin Johnson had a career day, 186 yards and 2 TD's. But, the kid that stole the show was WV's QB Pat White. he brought the mountaineers back and stole the show. The kid is the real deal. Rodriguez made a great decision staying at WV, he'll keep them competitive.

Cotton Turned Auburn

AT&T Cotton Bowl

Auburn 17
Nebraska 14

ESPN Accuscore: Auburn 52%
My Pic: Nebraska

Nebraska jumped out early and I thought they were going to take control and not let up. I was wrong...again. If you liked to watch two teams pound it out and play D this was a game for you. Auburn did one thing that kept Nebraska away...they never gave them opportunities. There's not much to say about this one, wasn't to exciting.

Joe Pa's Still Got It

Outback Bowl

Penn State 20
Tennessee 10

ESPN Accuscore: Tennessee 64%
My Pic: Penn State

Penn State came out and took control of this game and never let up. It wasn't just a dominating performance, but it was close. Penn States defense was just great. They didn't allow Tennessee to get an big plays on them. Penn State didn't do anything fancy to win this one, just tough D and capitalized when Tenn. gave them opportunities.

Teh Battle On The Blue

MPC Computers Bowl

Miami 21
Nevada 20

ESPN Accuscore: Miami 56%
My Pic: Nevada

The battle on the blue turf was semi exciting. Watching a team that didn't matter and a team that doesn't seem to have a future was kind of mundane. Miami was able to rally around parting coach Larry Coker and send him out on a good note. Nevadas coach Chris Ault made a horrible decision early in the game to go for 2. Nevada didn't get it and they lost by a point. It's not even a gutsy call, it's stupidity.

Dawgs Gone Wild

Chick-fil-A Bowl

Georgia 31
Virginia Tech 24

ESPN Accuscore: Virginia Tech 70%

With the Bulldogs down 21-3 at the half I thought this one was over. I have been wrong on that acount a lot this bowl season. Coach Mark Richt called for an onside kick in the 3rd quarter, down 21-6. This was big Balls folks. Bulldogs recovered and took over the game. Virginia Tech gave this game away just like the 4 turnovers to allow the Bulldogs to win it.

Kind Of Ironic?

Alamo Bowl
Texas 26
Iowa 24

ESPN Accuscore: Texas 80%
My Pic: Texas

Texas winning the Alamo Bowl, last time I checked and I'm no historian, they lost the Alamo. So this wasn't the shut out that everybody thought it would be. With Texas down at the half I was a little worried about my pic. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz had his boys ready to play. This team was excited and they brought it to the Longhorns. I was really into Iowa and there game play, was no give in the Hawkeyes. Colt McCoy threw for over 300 yards and 2 TD's to prove that he was the best freshman QB in the nation.

Run Game Lets Navy Down

Meineke Car Care Bowl

Boston College 25
Navy 24

ESPN Accuscore: Boston College 74%
My Pic: Navy

navy had this one all locked up and then they decided to pitch the ball on a 3rd and 15 with not much time left. Boston didn't have any timeouts left. I don't understand the play call. Why not hand it off and then punt the ball away. Navy lost this game, Boston College did not win it. Boston College extended their current longest bowl winning streak to 7. BC's kicker Aponavicuis, a walk on who had missed a field goal earlier in the night, hit a game winning 37 yard field goal as time ran out. Nothing like theatrics!!!
