Bowl Season Is Over: Time For Some Fun Facts 17-14

So it's finally all over. I had a good time despite OU losing in the Fiesta Bowl. Just for Mike next post will be one Big XII vs. Big East. So look forward to that one. I've really gotten into picking the Bowl games. I'm still not that good at it, but I think I did a little better than last year. I guess we can just jump right into it.

In picking the BCS games ESPN was 3-2 and I went 4-1. If it wasn't for that debacle in Glendale, Arizona, I would have gone a perfect 5-0 in the major bowl games. But that's neither here nor there. My overall record this year in the Bowl games was 17-14, ESPN went 20-11. So if you are a betting man, you should probably go with ESPN. Unless you are picking the BCS games ;). Last year I went 15-12, so I basically did the same, with a difference of 3 games. But, I like to think I did better since I got more games right. In the games that I picked wrong 6 of the teams I picked lost by a TD or less. 5 of them lost by 3 or less and 3 of them only lost by 1 point. Just some fun facts, I know they don't really mean anything. The games that I got wrong and the team lost by more than at TD were some serious blowouts. Of the 8 that lost by more than a TD only 1 was by 8 and only 2 were under 2 TD's. 3 of them lost by at least 3 TD's.

I guess all that's left now is waiting for next year. Man, I'm ready for football season!!!

GATORS!!!!!

Tostitos BCS National Championship

Florida 41
Ohio State 14

ESPN Accuscore: Ohio State 76%
My Pic: Florida

When Ted Ginn took the opening kickoff 92 yards it looked like it had begun. The beating was on, and it was. It was just the other way around. Florida came out aggressive and full of piss and vinegar. Urban Meyers gators were amazing. His game plan was great. I loved the plays and the play calling. Ohio State was freakin horrible. They were totally flat and still had a chance to win it coming out in the second half, but they didn't make any changes at the half. Heres to Florida!!!!

Southern Miss Just To Much

GMAC Bowl

Southern Miss 28
Ohio 7

ESPN Accuscore: Southern Miss 63%
My Pic: Ohio

Watched a little of this one, these pointless bowls stuck right in the middle of the BCS Bowls is retarded. I wish they wouldn't do that. But, on to the game. Ohio played like I expected, except for that 2nd quarter. They gave up 21 points in the 2nd and lost by 21 points. Ohio couldn't really get anything going offensively. Maybe next year Ohio will finally win their first bowl game, maybe.

Bears Get International

International Bowl

Cincinnati 27
Western Michigan 24

ESPN Accuscore: Cincinnati 63%
My Pic: Cincinnati

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't watch this one. I flipped it over to check the score every now and then. I'll give you smoe info on the game. The international bowl was the first one played in Cananda and the first played outside the US since 1937. Cincinnati was up 24-0 in the 3rd and then Western Michigan's offense and Deffense came alive. Scoring 24 unansewred point to tie the game, but they let Cincinnati get a field goal to win it.

LSU Is All Sugary

All State Sugar Bowl

LSU 41
Notre Dame 14

ESPN Accuscore: LSU 76%
My Pic: LSU

Holy Crap, did Notre Dame get their butt kicked. All of the "stars" of the Fighting Irish just plained sucked it up. All the big names they have and LSU came out and said, "Who's your daddy?" If Jamarcus Russell stays at LSU look for him to a front runner for the Heisman. He was outstanding, making Brady Quinn look like a Div. III loser. This game looked competitive in the first half, but LSU put on a clinic in the 2nd half. Is Charlie Weiss ever going to end the 9 straight bowl game losing streak?

Louisville Is All Oranges

FedEx Orange Bowl

Louisville 24
Wake Forest 13

ESPN Accuscore: Louisville 71%
My Pic: Louisville

This game looked promising for Wake when they started the 4th all tied up at 10. Louisville was able to put them away with Two scores on the ground in the 4th by Anthony Allen and Brock Bolen. Louisville has become a dominate team in the nation and look for them to carry that into next season.

Running With The Big Dogs!!!

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

Boise
State 43
Oklahoma 42

ESPN Accuscore: OU 69%
My Pic: OU

So I don't think many people saw this happening. I'll even venture out and say most of the Boise State loyalist didn't see this happening. Heck, I bet there were some guys in that locker room that didn't see this happening. I sure didn't. Boise State played good, hands down. They didn't put themselves in a position to lose this game. OU didn't play well in the first half or second half. Only in the final minutes did they seem to play sooner football. Boise State took advantage of OU and their poor play. All the theatrics at the end were amazing! Boise State coach Chris Peterson deserves a ton of credit. He went head to head with one of the nations top teams and played heads up football, and won. He didn't need any bag of tricks till late in the game. And when the game is on the line, any team and any coach will try anything. Big Props go out to Boise State and their coach Chris Peterson. Couldn't ask for more in a bowl game, except for an OU win! :)

Trojan Man

Rose Bowl
So Cal 32
Michigan 18

ESPN Accuscore: USC 51%
My Pic: USC

This game started out nothing like I thought it would. Both teams going in at the half tied at 3 was shocking. But, you had to know that there would be some fireworks in the second half. Somebody would start pressing and trying to make things happen. Either big plays or turnovers would be the result. Michigan's big play man, Mike Hart, was anything but. hart was held by the USC D to only 47 yards. USC's Booty and Jarrett had all star performances. Booty threw for 391 yards and 4 TD's and Jarrett caught 2 TD's and racked up 203 yards. Jarrett needed a big night if he wanted to make his way in the draft, and he did just that.

Badgers Beat Razorbacks?

Capital One Bowl Game

Wisconsin 17
Arkansas 14

ESPN Accuscore: Wisconsin 55%
My Pic: Arkansas

This is another game that I thought was a lock...and I was wrong. During the game I just felt like we were waiting for Arkansas to take the game over and then time just ran out. The Razorback D was strong against the run, holding Wisconsin to -4 yards on the ground. Basically Wisconsin got a lead early and just kept it smart. They didn't try anything fancy and didn't take any unnecessary risks.

Mountaineers Climb The Gator

Toyota Gator Bowl

West Virginia 38
Georgia Tech 35

ESPN Accuscore: West Virginia 52%
My Pic: West Virginia

Know here was some scoring. It didn't look good for the Mountaineers early down 35-17. The QB's were great in this game. GT's Taylor Bennett, stepping in for Reggie Ball, did great. He threw for over 300 yards and 3 TD's. Possible the best WR in the draft Calvin Johnson had a career day, 186 yards and 2 TD's. But, the kid that stole the show was WV's QB Pat White. he brought the mountaineers back and stole the show. The kid is the real deal. Rodriguez made a great decision staying at WV, he'll keep them competitive.

Cotton Turned Auburn

AT&T Cotton Bowl

Auburn 17
Nebraska 14

ESPN Accuscore: Auburn 52%
My Pic: Nebraska

Nebraska jumped out early and I thought they were going to take control and not let up. I was wrong...again. If you liked to watch two teams pound it out and play D this was a game for you. Auburn did one thing that kept Nebraska away...they never gave them opportunities. There's not much to say about this one, wasn't to exciting.

Joe Pa's Still Got It

Outback Bowl

Penn State 20
Tennessee 10

ESPN Accuscore: Tennessee 64%
My Pic: Penn State

Penn State came out and took control of this game and never let up. It wasn't just a dominating performance, but it was close. Penn States defense was just great. They didn't allow Tennessee to get an big plays on them. Penn State didn't do anything fancy to win this one, just tough D and capitalized when Tenn. gave them opportunities.

Teh Battle On The Blue

MPC Computers Bowl

Miami 21
Nevada 20

ESPN Accuscore: Miami 56%
My Pic: Nevada

The battle on the blue turf was semi exciting. Watching a team that didn't matter and a team that doesn't seem to have a future was kind of mundane. Miami was able to rally around parting coach Larry Coker and send him out on a good note. Nevadas coach Chris Ault made a horrible decision early in the game to go for 2. Nevada didn't get it and they lost by a point. It's not even a gutsy call, it's stupidity.

Dawgs Gone Wild

Chick-fil-A Bowl

Georgia 31
Virginia Tech 24

ESPN Accuscore: Virginia Tech 70%
My Pic: Virginia Tech

With the Bulldogs down 21-3 at the half I thought this one was over. I have been wrong on that acount a lot this bowl season. Coach Mark Richt called for an onside kick in the 3rd quarter, down 21-6. This was big Balls folks. Bulldogs recovered and took over the game. Virginia Tech gave this game away just like the 4 turnovers to allow the Bulldogs to win it.

Kind Of Ironic?

Alamo Bowl
Texas 26
Iowa 24

ESPN Accuscore: Texas 80%
My Pic: Texas

Texas winning the Alamo Bowl, last time I checked and I'm no historian, they lost the Alamo. So this wasn't the shut out that everybody thought it would be. With Texas down at the half I was a little worried about my pic. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz had his boys ready to play. This team was excited and they brought it to the Longhorns. I was really into Iowa and there game play, was no give in the Hawkeyes. Colt McCoy threw for over 300 yards and 2 TD's to prove that he was the best freshman QB in the nation.

Run Game Lets Navy Down

Meineke Car Care Bowl

Boston College 25
Navy 24

ESPN Accuscore: Boston College 74%
My Pic: Navy

navy had this one all locked up and then they decided to pitch the ball on a 3rd and 15 with not much time left. Boston didn't have any timeouts left. I don't understand the play call. Why not hand it off and then punt the ball away. Navy lost this game, Boston College did not win it. Boston College extended their current longest bowl winning streak to 7. BC's kicker Aponavicuis, a walk on who had missed a field goal earlier in the night, hit a game winning 37 yard field goal as time ran out. Nothing like theatrics!!!
